In 2019, Dubai became the global centre of the Islamic economy thanks to the initiatives and development plans of the Dubai Islamic Economy Development Centre (DIEDC), which had the objective of positioning Dubai as the world capital of Islamic economic best practice.
The result of some initiatives of economic development established in 2017 by the DIEDC were:
1. the increase of the contribution of the Islamic economy to the GDP of Dubai to 10%,
2. the increase to 14% for the share of Halal products in total emirate trade.
These results place the United Arab Emirates among the top three most influential countries in the global Islamic economy indicator.
As stated by Sami Al Qamzi, Vice President of the DIEDC, addressing the Board of Directors, "Following the strategic plan presented by the Board, the Center will work around the clock in 2020 to achieve the planned results. In the coming year, we will give priority to the objective of measuring the contribution of the Islamic economy to the national GDP, as accurate statistics will allow us to direct our efforts where they are most needed".
